TMI Jobs in People & Talent
January 10, 2025 - Roles at Nudge, Lightening AI, Orbitworks and more..
Hi there!
Someone said to me the other day that they believe our generation is the last to have real impact in their work. Thereafter, it’ll mostly be technology.
I don’t agree with the statement, but I understand the sentiment. Yet, while know I don’t agree with it, I keep finding my brain churning through what it means.
So indulge me for a minute: Imagine if a recruiter from the 80s looked at how I spent my days in 2025. They’d probably think I have way less ‘impact’ than they do - with the mass automation of outreach, the Zoom calls vs phone/in-person conversations, the sheer concept of sitting in front of a computer all day… It’d look incredibly boring and robotic. I wonder if the same people who got into recruiting a few decades ago would even find themselves in the field had they been born a bit later, or if they’d naturally navigate their way to a different function. If the way of working changes, does that change the sense of impact or motivation?
You can say the same for just about any other function. Engineering. Sales. Marketing. They’ve fundamentally changed with the advent of tech and thereafter AI, but does that mean that humans will get less meaning out of their work?
I could also go down an entire tangent about how one defines ‘impact’ - but I’ll spare you for now :)
Anywho, that’s what’s on my mind. Curious if anyone has strong opinions or interesting insights on the matter.
For now, onto the most interesting roles!
The Americas
(First!) Recruiting Lead/People Person at Confidential in Los Angeles, CA.
Seed stage startup building electric propulsion technology for the aerospace industry. They are a team of ±12 right now, and you’d be joining as their first Recruiting Lead (and will also take on basic HR needs as they get things off the ground). This person needs to be based in LA and have experience hiring for hardware and software teams (early-stage experience preferred!). If you’re interested, please send me your LinkedIn/CV as a direct reply to this email 🚀
TMI Factors: First-In, Early-Stage, Aerospace!, Impressive Backers (a16z, Cantos, Hummingbird :))
(First!) Head of Talent at Nudge in San Francisco, CA.
Early-stage biotech company using ultrasound technology on the brain to treat neurological and psychiatric disorders, like addiction, depression, and anxiety (!!). I couldn’t find any info on their funding (perhaps self funded?), but the company is <12 folks right now, has very impressive founders, and you’d be the first Talent person through the door. Pretty dang interesting 🧠 Apply here.
TMI Factors: First-In, Early-Stage, Very Cool/Experimental Tech + Psychiatric Application, Impressive Founders (ex Partner at Paradigm VC, ex cofounder at Coinbase)
(First!) People Business Partner at Lightening AI in New York, NY.
Series B+ operating system for building AI models and end-to-end ML systems. Basically, making it much easier for teams to build, train, and deploy entire AI systems. They have someone on the team leading Talent, but you’ll be joining as the first People person, reporting into the CEO/cofounder. Apply here.
TMI Factors: First-In, AI Mania! + Early-Movers in a Busy Space, Impressive Backers (Index, Bain, Nvidia, Coatue, Firstminute Capital)
(First-in-Region!) People Ops/Workspace Coordinator at Basecamp Research in Boston, US.
Series B company building the first knowledge graph of all known proteins in the world 🌱🧬. Literally, you guys, this company has a team of explorer/scientists who go to the far reaches of the earth to collect samples of natural resources (plants, algae, etc) to add to their platform so that we (humans) can develop future medicines using a far wider array of natural proteins than ever before. It is very, very cool. They are London-based and are opening their second office in Boston, so while quite junior, this person would get the chance to build the office culture from near-scratch and work for an incredibly interesting company. Apply here.
TMI Factors: First-In-Region, Great Early-Career Opportunity, Fascinating Science + Application, Impressive Backers (Singular, redalpine, and yes - Hummingbird VC :))
EMEA/APAC
(First!) TA/People Ops Manager at Synthflow in Berlin, GER (or EU/UK remote for stars :))
Seed stage no-code platform where businesses can build and adapt AI voice agents to their needs. The AI agent space is a busy one, but there’s a reason it’s busy, and there will be multiple winners in the end. Synthflow seems to have some good early traction, and you’d be joining their team of ±30 as their very first people/talent person. Cool! Apply here.
TMI Factors: First-In, Early-Stage, AI Mania!, Solid Backers (Singular, Atlantic Labs)
Head of People at n8n in Europe (Remote).
Series A AI-native workflow automation platform. This is a busy space, but interesting nonetheless. The team is already at 70 folks (which seems quite large for a company of their funding, but given their revenue numbers, perhaps this is less of a red flag - worth diving into) and you’d be coming in to oversee the entire HR/Talent org. Cool! Apply here.
TMI Factors: Early-Stage, Impressive Backers (Sequoia’s first seed ticket in Germany, Felicis, Firstminute Capital)
(First!) Tech Recruiter at Orbitworks in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
This company was started as a joint venture between two other spacetech companies (Marlan Space & Loft Orbital) - so it’s not 100% independent, but it is a brand-new venture. The just launched their space in Abu Dhabi where they will build satellite constellations, and you’d be joining as the first technical recruiter (and from the looks of it, the second employee!) in the company. Truly getting to build from the ground up. Apply here.
TMI Factors: First-in!, Building a Team from 0, SpaceTech + Building Satellites for the Private Industry, Legit Parent Companies (Loft Orbital - satellite startup, and Marlan Space - VC/startup bringing spacetech to the UAE)
Have a great weekend, everyone!
